Sure it would be great to have a video go viral and be seen by hundreds of thousands of people around the world. It would be even greater to have that viral video result in sales but most of the time they are just like Wild Cherry and their one hit wonder “Play That Funky Music” song! What was their next massive hit? Oh that’s right they didn’t have one. Why on earth not? That song was great! (Watch the video Below to remind you how great it really was, you’ll be bopping in your seat!)
Where was I? Going viral, yes, as I said, it would be great but what is greater is creating consistent helpful content that gives value and creates a long lasting online presence that will last a lifetime! It is a much slower approach that takes longer to work, but is the only way to build a business that will stand the test of time online, along with some pay per click advertising (only if it is right for your business). Every time you add a blog post, a unique image, a video or a podcast if you are up for it, you are creating an extra little spot in the heavens of the internet for people to find you AND people will find you if you keep at it!
To give you an example, Marcus Sheridan from River Pools & Spas went from nearly bankrupt to massive success by blogging. He decided to answer every single question he had every been asked about spas and pools and created a blog post for each of those questions. Bit by bit, adding to the content of his website it was not long before he was catapulted to Google stardom, and in his words, became the number #1 trafficked swimming pool and spa website in the world. This strategy of adding helpful and consistent content is the reason his business became the massive success it is. He is literally the wikipoolia of the world!
This is what I love helping my clients do! We help you be the “wiki” of whatever your specialty or industry is! Through creating helpful, relevant content and images on a consistent basis. But don’t just take my word for how great this strategy is, read this article from Tom Fish Burne the Marketoonist. He says….
Sometimes it may seem that adding blog posts and sharing your content on social media is not resulting in leads and most of the time it’s not an instant lead generation activity but it IS something that will build you and your brand as an expert and it is a strategy that can see you be number 1 on Google without burning a stack of money on ppc (not that I’m saying you shouldn’t have a pay per click campaign). Just a little something else to think about….. When you are the “expert” you are worth more 🙂
Now play that funky music!
